Business Management & International
Trade

The capabilities, confidence and understanding of
farming and the food business is the focus of training in Business
Management and International Trade. Success depends on the ability to
identify management systems that can overcome barriers to
international trade and an understanding of business risk and
management systems.
Leadership skills are built into the training courses
to motivate staff, manage people, negotiate and communicate
effectively.

“The region’s agri-food industry has been
offered the chance to take some constructive opportunities in the
current market due to the recent big falls in the value of
sterling, and the fact that the food and drink industry has been
less affected by the credit crunch compared to others. In
addition, I believe that climate change will make some of these
changes permanent. Water shortages in southern continental Europe
and other parts of the world mean that they will have to import
food during our main production seasons.
It is very important that our businesses gear up to
capitalise on these opportunities. Developing our people’s skills,
through the LandSkills East program, is going to be key in achieving
this.”
Andrew Charleton, Chair of the Business
Management and International Trade Skills Group
Managing Director, Hedleypoplar Limited, Kings Lynn, Norfolk
