Agricultural Livestock
Training Aims
Your training in this sector will focus on animal
health issues, improving profitability of enterprises and will include
the adoption of technology through genetics, nutrition and business
planning. You can choose a training course at either vocational or
higher level, depending on your experience and aspirations.
The content of the training is up to date and is
designed to answer the needs of the industry. You will have the
support of eminent farmers, and others associated with the industry
through the Agricultural Livestock Skills Group. The Group will
oversee and support training in this sector to ensure that your
training covers up-to-date knowledge and technology.

The Agricultural Livestock Skills Group have signposted
the importance of the issues below:
- Training in man management issues for
staff who find themselves in a position of responsibility without
prior man management training or experience.
- Information Technology training on
introducing and further developing the use of IT into farm
management practices.
- Marketing skills for staff and managers to
help businesses in marketing their produce and in managing their
customer relations.
- Strategic skills training for business owners
and managers in the pig, poultry and ruminant sectors looking to
take a strategic view on future investment and risk evaluation
strategies.
- Management training for livestock farmers
in the pig, poultry and ruminant sectors to help grow their
businesses, primarily in relation to: competitiveness (performance,
market development, cost control and others), nutrient management
and sustainability (energy and waste).
- Training in skills for animal health and
welfare in the ruminant sector.
