New Entrants & Leadership

A key objective of LandSkills East is to assist in the
development of ‘farmers of the future’ by providing programmes to
build the confidence of young farmers and other new entrants, as well
as to improve their business management skills. It is important for
the future of the industry to train young farmers, or those aspiring
to become leading figures, in the skills required to assume high
levels of responsibility, effective communication and leadership
roles. This will help form successful agribusiness managers and
community leaders and ensure that they have the skills to champion
farming in the future.

“The challenges for tomorrow's farmers will
be both exciting and exacting. An expanding world population
combined with increasing environmental constraints, means that
tomorrow's farmers will have to produce more while impacting less.
In amongst this, I am convinced that East Anglian farmers will
remain world leaders both in food production and in environmental
stewardship. However one thing is for sure, they won't be able to
do it without acquiring new skills. Training for new entrants and
the industry's future leaders will be key in all of this.
I am delighted to be involved in the provision of this initiative,
and in chairing the New Entrants and Leadership group of the
Landskills East initiative. I look forward to playing my role
as one small cog in the system of training provision that will be
rolled out over the next few years.”
