Farm businesses become increasingly complex and managers need reliable and accurate information for themselves, their regulators and their customers. There are career opportunities for administrators to work for one or several businesses, ensuring that their records are up to date and fit for purpose.
This course gives a thorough grounding in the preparation and maintenance of accounts; payroll, legal and management records for staff; and legislative, assurance and production records for crops and livestock. It leads to the NPTC Level 3 Certificate in Rural Business Administration in both Crops and Livestock. This is the recognised national qualification and is valuable for those starting or resuming a career as a farm or estate secretary. While the Certificate is offered in one of two options (Crops or Livestock), this course offers the opportunity of completing both, broadening skills and career choices.
The Certificate is studied by distance learning, with nationally-set examinations. Easton College will provide study skills to make the process and discipline of this approach easier; the College wil also provide tutorial support through the course, with sessions set aside for exam revision. In addition, the College will provide taster sessions in computerised financial, personnel, crop and livestock recording, to make trainees aware of the scope and performance of current representative systems.
NPTC have stated that they will not be continuing with this qualification and that the 2010 examinations in February and June will be the last opportunity to gain this Certificate. Enquiries are now being taken for a similar content course due to start in 2010.
